A few words about RSGS 2025 from our Captain Bengt Grundberg

“Time flies when you’re having fun” as the saying goes and for my part the 2025 RSGS golfing year has flown by. I had the honour of becoming Captain at at the AGM in April, which also kicked off our golfing calendar at Worplesdon Golf Club. And what a cracking start it was!

My first role as Captain was to lead the RSGS team at the International Meeting at Praia D’El Rey Golf in Portugal May 21-25. We placed 4th, but not for lack of trying. Every team member fought hard, the competition was simply too good.

Our Midsummer Meeting was held at Effingham Golf Club as customary, and as usual it was well attended and appreciated! The herring starter, courtesy of the Magnuson family, set the stage for the Midsummer mood, and Jan Persson led us in singing some brilliant ‘snapsvisor’.

The next event was the yearly invitational ‘Londonpokalen’ at the end of August at Gothenburg Golf Club. I am pleased to note that RSGS was represented by our President Lars Löfberg, Charlotte Löfberg, Vice-captain Christine Löfberg and Göran Nilsson.

Our Autumn Meeting was held at the RAC, as two ‘day’ events. The venue was well received, and the remodelled greens remarkably challenging. Particularly pleasing was that Mr Ulf Eklund from Göteborgs GolfKlubb joined us.

Our final event of the year is always a special event and this year the Swinley Forest Meeting
Friday, October 31st lived up to expectations. The weather was drizzly at times and the course well presented with very slick and true greens. It seemed to me that the consensus during the legendary post-round carvery lunch was that all 20 attendees had enjoyed themselves greatly.

Finally, I would once again like to extend a very special welcome to all our new UK members: Stalo Ipsou, Gustav Erlandsson, Lennie and Louis Olson-Welsh, Håkan Erixon, and Sean O’Hara. We also have a few further members set to join in January!
