27-28 of September was a big weekend in golf. Team Europe was at Bethpage Black playing excellent golf, and a number of RSGS members were at RAC Epsom playing the Autumn meeting. Much was said about the difficulty of the Ryder Cup venue ahead of the weekend, but as we all know, Team Europe was not phased. The courses at RAC however, proved rather challenging for us!

On the Saturday, we enjoyed a delicious lunch before setting out on the Coronation Course in nice weather. Gunilla retained the Magnuson Bowl with 30 points – well ahead of the other ladies. Captain Bengt secured the Bommen Cup with 26 points. We all enjoyed the prize giving ceremony at the Club house ‘Hole 19’ while watching the action from New York.

The weather on Sunday was grey and drizzly. We had a light lunch before setting out on the Old Course. Joining us from Gothenburg Golf Club was Mr Ulf Eklund, who came in with an impressive net score of 74 strokes. The same went for his playing partner our Captain; Bengt. The third player to achieve the same score was Steve Hill, and on countback, he won the Captain’s Prize. The prize this year was two RSGS wine glasses. Gabi Olson-Welsh won the Ladies’ Prize with a net score of 81. Once again, we watched the Ryder Cup over drinks and nibbles.
