Effingham delivered – as it always does.

June 6th – ie Nationaldagen – saw 21 Royal Swedish Golfing Society members arrive at Effingham GC at 10:30 am to enjoy a spread of sandwiches, coffees and teas. First tee-off was at 11:30, and by 12:10 all 6 flights were on the course. The weather apps had threatened rain, but we remained dry and had a thoroughly delightful day on the course. Aside from the individual Stableford competitions (The Midsummer Trophy and Dampokalen), each flight ‘created a team’ where the two best scores on each hole were counted.

After the round, drinks were enjoyed on the terrace, then it was time for dinner and prizes. As has become tradition, the Magnuson family, who host us at Effingham, organised herring, potatoes and crisp bread for our starter, as well as Ann setting up the tables with suitably Swedish and ‘midsummery’ decorations. Jan Persson had compiled some of his favourite snaps-songs and served as a brilliant Choir Master.

After a delicious salmon main course and indulgent chocolate and caramel pudding, Captain Bengt Grundberg announced the winners:

Dampokalen: Gunilla Assmundson (on cb) 31 points (especially impressive as Gunilla had a stroke taken from her course handicap due to past wins, well done Gunilla!),
2nd place: Anita Bräck 31p, 3rd place: Stalo Ipsou 29p.

The Midsummer Trophy: Kristoffer Huldt 37 points,
2nd place (on cb): Claes Andreasson 33p, 3rd place: P-O Assmundson 33p.

Princess Birgitta’s Trophy is awarded to the best score of the day, so was sent home with Kristoffer Huldt.

Team prize: Flight 3; Kristoffer Huldt, Gunilla Assmundson, Helene Öberg, & Göran Nilsson 82 points.

Nearest to Pin: Stalo Ipsou (also the only lady to hit the green – well done!) and David Magnusson.

Longest Drive: Gabi Olson-Welsh and David Magnusson

Winners of Team Competition
Winners of the team competition: Gunilla, Kristoffer, Helene, & Göran.

Congratulations to all the winners, and once again, a big thank you to the Magnuson family; Bengt-Arne, Ann, David, & Christer. Though not all were able to attend, we know that you were instrumental in making the day a great success.
