Heritage

The Swedish Golfing Society (RSGS) was established in 1912 by London-based, Swedish Physiotherapist Detlof von Braun. He was passionate about sports, the outdoors, and was looking to find a natural way for likeminded people to meet, play golf, and socialise. He convinced his peers, and well over 100 years later, the Society continues to provide an impressive calendar of events, but it’s the members who make the RSGS what it is today. Through the years, there have been many colourful characters (present day included). Some families are now represented by the initial member’s grandchildren. A long-time member, Staffan Widenfelt, previously the Swedish Trade Commissioner in London, held a speech in 2002 during the 90th anniversary celebration that describes how the Society became what it is today. Grab a cup of tea and read the ‘History’ section to find out more. In 2012 we celebrated our Centenary – when our current Patron HRH Prinsessan Birgitta joined us for golf and a gala dinner.
