England Golf/WHS – Key Rules for RSGS 2022 Knockouts

  • Course handicaps and Playing Handicaps according to the world handicap system. Refer to England Golf rules here
  • Mixed Pairs adjustment to Ladies’ handicaps – Per WHS use difference between Course Ratings for Yellow and Red tees (previously SSS was used)
  • Strokes Given – conceded by the back marker using playing handicaps
    • Singles matches – full difference between playing handicaps.  Apply 1 shot adjustment for home advantage to the playing handicaps, then calculate the difference. Maximum number of strokes given is 18.
    • 4BBB Pairs matches – Difference between playing handicaps after all adjustments – see examples below.

Mixed Couples 4BBB Pairs example – match played on Player 1’s home course

Handicap allowances – strokes received – always use playing handicaps, which are whole numbers after rounding up the number calculated after all adjustments.  Player 2 is the back marker with playing handicap 13 so in the example above strokes received are

Player 2: 0
Player 1: 1
Player 3: 4
Player 4: 18

Men’s 4BBB pairs – similar to above except there is no course rating adjustment

RSGS KNOCKOUTS – GENERAL RULES APPLYING TO ALL MATCH PLAY COMPETITIONS

  1. Top/first names to arrange the match AT THE LATEST FOUR WEEKS before the deadline for that round
  2. At least two weekend dates must be offered to the opponent(s). Once the date for the match is agreed the Captain should be informed by email to secretary@rsgsgolf.co.uk
  3. Green Fees.  One half of green fees for visitor(s) to the club where matches are played is to be paid by the home player(s)
  4. If it has not been possible to play the match by the date, the top name(s) will automatically go forward provided opponents have been given due notice
  5. Governing match play rules.  England Golf rules apply.
  6. Visitor’s Adjustments to Playing Handicaps.  These are to be applied before handicap allowances (strokes given) are calculated.
  7. Match Results.  The result of a match is final when the Winning player/team informs the Captain and Secretary by email to secretary@rsgsgolf.com
  8. Matches tied after the designated number of holes are to be decided by Sudden Death, starting at the first hole of the course played on that day
  9. 2019 new rules of golf – local rule option for out of bounds/lost balls – RSGS will not use this rule.  Always use the “stroke and distance” rule, even if the golf club you are playing at has adopted the local rule.
