Swinley Forest 2025

It was a rather drizzly Friday the 31st of October, but this did not deter the 20 RSGS members who arrived at Swinley Forest from 7 am. Teas, coffees and bacon baps were devoured, and the players were briefed on the the 3-ball waltz format that each flight would be competing as a team in: on the first hole, the best player’s score is counted. On the second hole, the two best, and on the third hole all three players’ scores are counted. This then starts over and goes on throughout the round.

Best dressed of the day was Anders Grundberg.

The trophies competed for were, as usual: The Cutting Prize for ladies, The Prince Bertil Cup for men, and finally the Paul Williams Scratch Prize. Paul was set to join us, but unfortunately had to cancel last minute due to illness. We look forward to seeing Paul at next year’s meeting to hand out his trophy!

The course was challenging as always at Swinley Forest, but that is why we enjoy it so. Conditions were, despite the drizzle, quite good for the time of year. The men provided us with some impressive results, with our newest member Håkan Erixon clinching the Prince Bertil trophy with 37 points, Göran Nilsson was runner up with 36 points. The Cutting Prize was won by Christine Lofberg with 27 points, narrowly beating Anne Anttonen who scored 26 points. The Paul Williams Scratch prize was also won by a new member; Lennie Olson-Welsh who made his way around the course on 79 shots.

Nearest to Pin were Anne Anttonen and Louis Olson-Welsh, and the Longest Drives were shot by Christine Lofberg and Gary Thomas.

The waltz winning team, with 85 points, was comprised of Anne, Håkan, and Captain Bengt. In second place, with 79 points were Herman, Göran and Christine.

Lunch was, as tradition dictates, Swinley Forest’s famous carvery; an impressive buffet to start, followed by a roast with all the trimmings and finished off with an array of indulgent desserts.

It was a successful last meeting of the year; with three new members attending; Louis, Lennie, and Håkan – all three of whom took home a prize – congratulations! In addition to all the meeting’s prizes, Gabi Olson-Welsh received her trophy for winning the Autumn Meeting 1 (it had been misplaced, but was thankfully found by our Secretary Bo after an intense search).
